EDINBURG - Alfonso Longoria, 81, a beloved father, veteran, entrepreneur, and community member, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Mr. Longoria is preceded in death by his parents, Marcelino and Guadalupe (Villarreal) Longoria; brother, Domingo Longoria; sister, Margarita Trevino.
Mr. Longoria was born on August 4, 1943, in Edinburg, Texas. Al proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, where he was awarded the Purple Heart three times for his bravery and dedication during his service. His commitment to his country was a defining aspect of his life, and he carried the values of honor and courage with him always.
After returning from military service, Mr. Longoria made significant contributions to the community through his entrepreneurial spirit. He owned and operated Al's Drive In on Schunior and Sugar Roads. His passion for hard work also led him to roles at South Texas Concrete, Alamo Concrete, and Rio Grande Steel, where he was known for his strong work ethic and integrity.
Mr. Longoria is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne Longoria; five children, Laura (Nicer) Perez, Alfonso (Catherine) Longoria, Jean Longoria, Ray (Kelly) Saenz, Lisa (Donald) Nega; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Sophia, Joseph, Jacob, Lauren, Audrey, Andrew, Justin, Jeremy, Kaylee, and Jenna; his brother, Arturo Longoria; three sisters, Gloria Gonzalez, Irma Guzman, and Clarinda Longoria; numerous family and friends. All who will remember him not only for his accomplishments but also for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p. m. with a 7 p.m. Celebration of Life service, Monday, November 11, 2024, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Interment will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Rio Grande Valley Veterans State Cemetery in Mission with full military honors.
Rest in peace, Al. Your spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved you.
Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
