David Fonseca

MISSION - David Fonseca, 74, born June 29, 1950, passed away in the comfort of his own home on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. Mr. Fonseca was a loving husband, incredible father, proud grandfather, and brother to his siblings. He will be missed immensely. Mr. Fonseca is preceded in death by his parents, Alberto Fonseca Sr. and Lorenza Lucio Fonseca; his infant sister, Susana Fonseca.

Mr. Fonseca grew up in McAllen, Texas and graduated from McAllen High School in 1970. He met Nelda Gutierrez, the love of his life in Mission, Tx and the two were married on June 23, 1973. They moved to Aurora, Illinois where they had their first daughter, Marlo. They returned briefly to McAllen to have their second daughter Krista and returned to Aurora before making McAllen their permanent home.

Mr. Fonseca was an entrepreneur, opening his first company, Wholesale Carpet & Tile then transitioning the business to Carpet City Contractors. He proudly served the entire valley doing major business with Cinemark, La Plaza Mall and many other local businesses and contractors.

Mr. Fonseca was a proud member of the McAllen Jaycee Organization during his early adult years serving his community.

Mr. Fonseca enjoyed dancing with his wife, going out to dinner, spending time with his daughters and traveling with his family. He was a devout follower of God and his Savior Jesus Christ reading the bible daily and always speaking favor over his friends and family. He enjoyed his time off golfing with friends and his brothers. He began his love of golf at a very young age becoming a caddy for McAllen Country Club when he was about 11 years old. He perfected his game over the years and took great pride in beating his brothers Alberto & Javier. He was also very proud to guide his son in law, Omar through the game until he suffered a stroke in 2012.

Although limited by deficits from the stroke David remained living with his wife and continued to enjoy life to the best of his ability for the following 12 years.

We would like to thank Life Touch Homehealth Services & IPH Home Health Care and his caregivers, Maria Aurora Calderon, Lilia Duran (Lili), Rosa Anna Marichalar (Roxie), Gabriela Duran and several others who assisted briefly; as well as Pete Cerda and Claudia Borjon from his hospice agency. A very special thank you to Eva Gutierrez, David's sister-in-law, who was always willing to lend a helping hand and took on a very personal responsibility to help us care for David. As David neared the end-of-life Manual Luna, FNP-BC and Angel Aguilar RRT provided care that made David's transition comfortable and dignified. Without the care and compassion of David's health care team he would not have been able to live out his remaining years at home with his wife as he wished.

Mr. Fonseca is survived by his wife, Nelda Fonseca; 2 daughters, Marlo Michelle Fonseca-Martinez (Omar Martinez) and Krista Renee Fonseca; 2 grandchildren, Easton David and Tiago Ames Martinez; 8 siblings, Maria G. Alejos, Yolanda Iga, Diana Palomarez, Joel Fonseca, Sandra Fonseca, Alberto Fonseca Jr. Elizabeth Fonseca, and Javier Fonseca; numerous family and friends.

Please dress to your preference, but color to celebrate life would be greatly appreciated. David's favorite color was blue.

Flowers are welcome; however, the family would prefer a monetary donation to build a Scholarship Fund to present to a talented High School Golf student within the McAllen ISD School District.
