Dr. Darshan Singh Gill

With sadness we announce the passing of Dr. Darshan Singh Gill. He died peacefully at the age of 89 on Friday, October 3, 2025 in McAllen, Texas.

Dr. Gill was born on June 21, 1936 in Punjab, India but became a citizen of the world whose life spanned over four continents. He was raised in Nairobi, Kenya and educated in the United Kingdom, where he attended medical school. As a surgeon, he built a reputation for devotion to his craft, which he approached with impeccable diligence. His medical career led him to Canada and then to the United States. In the last decades of his life he settled in the Rio Grande Valley, the place he loved the most of all.

He was known for his conversational sparkle and old-world charm, a love of fine wines and sense of global adventure. He is survived by his children, Charlotte, Alex and Suzannah and by an extended family of sisters, nieces and nephews. He will be remembered by them and by the thousands of patients whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by his many friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Legacy Chapels in Edinburg, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders).
