George Peter Amegin, 88, born September 1937 in Kuldja, China, died peacefully on December 15, 2025. Married to Edith Porter for 47 years, they had 4 children (Natasha, Daniel, John Marc, and Guy), 6 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. He contracted polio at a young age and after numerous surgeries from the Shriners Children's Hospital, he lived an athletic life. George joined the US Navy in 1976, transferred to the US Army in 1978, and served until 2004 when he retired from the US Army Reserves. George and Edith moved to Edinburg, serving the Rio Grande Valley as an ophthalmologist for over three decades. He believed in his Lord Jesus Christ, following God's will by taking care of those in need and giving back to the community. He volunteered his time and effort through medical mission trips to Mexico.
He was an accomplished musician, proficient in playing the piano, trumpet, and accordion. He used his talents to give free piano and trumpet lessons to local underprivileged children. George and Edith established the World Healthcare Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving those in need of medical help around the world and spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
He lived life like an adventure, living for Christ, sacrificing his comfort and money for others in need of help, never considering himself better than anyone, even though he was usually the most educated person in the room.
He taught his children and grandchildren to always be humble and work hard. His life always pointed to Christ, and we know he is now resting with his Savior, totally healed. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his sister Nida Lokteff.
