GERARD VAELLO

MCALLEN- Gerard Vaello, 80, entered eternal rest on Sunday, December 18, 2022, in McAllen. Mr. Vaello was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Odile Vaello; brother, Sandy Vaello.

Mr Vaello was a devoted family man who loved unconditionally, gave freely, and truly cared about others. He was a dedicated supportive fan of all his children’s and grandchildren’s sports events. His laughter filled a room and he would do whatever possible to make someone smile and feel good about themselves. He was a legendary storyteller who never passed up the opportunity to share a funny story or joke. He was the handyman who would drop what he was doing to help those who needed it. His comic relief was always perfectly timed and welcomed, just to be able to see a smile on someone’s face or to just fill the time with laughter. His hugs could make someone forget their worries or make a bad day, good.

Mr Vaello was a Marine stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station El Toro near Irvine, California. While in California, he attended USC and also worked at Disneyland, boasting of helping all the pretty girls get on and off the rides. Later in his adult life he enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. He had a gentle soul and will be missed by all who knew him.

Mr Vaello is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rosario “Chayo”; four children: Maribeth, Eric, Stacy, and Jerri-Lynn; 10 grandchildren: Grant, Taylor, Kylie, Paxton, Cole, Lance, Kelly-Marie, Skylar, Sienna, and Samara; brother: Jay Vaello; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a 4:30 p.m. Celebration of Life, Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg.

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
