GILBERTO L. GUERRA SR.

MCALLEN - Gilberto L. Guerra Sr., 78, went to his eternal home with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, July 29, 2023, in McAllen. Gilberto "fought the good fight, he finished the race, he kept the faith" (II Timothy 4:7). Mr. Guerra was born in Rio Grande City to Ciro Guerra and Ernestina Gomez. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings, Leonel Guerra, Ernestina G. Cavazos, Ruben Guerra, Ciro Guerra Jr., Guadalupe G. Castro, and Bertha G. Rogers.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alicia Munoz Guerra; five children, Gilbert L. (Estela) Guerra Jr., Gabriel L. (Fausta) Guerra, Gerard L. (Clarissa) Guerra, Gerald L. (Dalia) Guerra, Liza Marie (Rene) Guerra; seven grandchildren; Evan Guerra, Deja Delgado, Kaitlyn Guerra, Victoria Guerra, Gabriel Guerra Jr., Adele Guerra, and Brianna Silva; seven siblings, Martin Guerra Sr., Ramon Guerra Sr., Roberto Guerra, Jorge Guerra, Hector Guerra, Angelina Perez and Norma Castillo; and numerous nieces and nephews.  

Mr. Gilberto L. Guerra lived all his life in McAllen, Texas. He graduated from McAllen High School class of 65' where he met his wife Alicia. Gilberto and Alicia raised their five children in McAllen. Mr. Guerra worked in the grocery business, first with Globe supermarket, Valley Mart stores, El Chaparral grocery stores. Later he started his own distribution of Mexican products to Jr's supermarkets and other businesses. He was a quiet, loving father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. We love you DAD, you will forever be in our hearts and mind.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Celebration of Life service, Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Chapel service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Legacy Chapels in Edinburg. Interment will follow at La Piedad Cemetery in McAllen with full military honors. Pallbearers will be Leo Cavazos, Carlos Guerra, Ramon Guerra Jr., Eddie Castro, Joe Garza Jr., Richard Castillo, Erich Guerra and Gilbert Munoz lll. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gabriel L. Guerra Jr., Gilbert Guerra, Gabriel Guerra, Gerard Guerra, and Gerald Guerra.

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
