It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Guadalupe "Lupe" Chavez, 74, of Edinburg, Texas, who went to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, May 20, 2024. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Chavez is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Amada; and her beloved son, Ricardo Chavez.
Mrs. Chavez was born on February 5, 1950 in Mission, Texas to Manuel Tamez and Estela Botello Tamez. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Lupe was a force of life. She was a strong, caring and hardworking woman. She was beautiful but she was tough while also being kind. She was the life of any room and had the best sense of humor and a laugh that was truly infectious. More than anything, she was an amazing mother who loved her children with all her heart and worked hard to provide for them. This love also extended to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved her right back.
She was a seamstress for many years at Haggar's and also studied cosmetology. In her later years she became a health care provider, caring for others like she always had. In her free time, she enjoyed tending to her yard and garden. She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and was a phenomenal cook. She later moved to Dumas to be with her daughter.
Mrs. Chavez is survived by two daughters, Cristina (Ciro of Dumas) Zavala and Elizabeth (Pilar) Barraza of Edinburg; three sisters, Serafina Rodriguez, Hermelinda Gutierrez, and Oliva Tamez; two brothers, Juan Tamez and Manuel Tamez Jr., nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous family and friends.
