Guadalupe (“Lupe”) Garza Jr., 79, entered eternal rest on Saturday, May 31, 2025, in Edinburg surrounded by his family. Lupe was born on June 1, 1945, in “Rancho Viejo” outside La Joya, Texas, where he was raised and graduated from La Joya High School. Lupe was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed by many. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his subtle, endearing humor, his humble and optimistic demeanor, and his devotion to God. Lupe found great joy in his life’s work as a farmer and rancher, building upon the legacy of his father. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army, as a carpenter in the 92nd Engineer Battalion in Vietnam. Lupe is preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Amparo Garza; his brother, Jose Carmen Garza; and his sisters, Maria Rita Carrales, Elma Garza Cantu and Aida Anita Garza Lopez.
Guadalupe is survived by his loving wife, Guadalupe Garza (Lupita) of Edinburg; two children, Angelica (Xavier) Alfaro of Houston and Alma (Timothy) Dodson of Austin, and three grandchildren, Olivia Grace, Elena Joy and Maximiliano Xavier; three brothers, Juan Lino Garza, Romulo Garza, and Eduardo Garza all of Penitas; and many nieces and nephews.
We, Lupe’s family, express our deep gratitude to our Lord for allowing us to walk this life for many years with a truly loving husband and father, who exemplified daily how to live faithfully, and for giving us strength during his illness. We also give thanks to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg, Father Rene and the countless friends and family who prayed for him. Thanks also to family, friends and caregivers, who with such kindness, thoughtfulness and love, gave of themselves to support and spiritually strengthen Lupe and Lupita during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary, Sunday June 8, 2025, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg.
