Guadalupe Porras Jr.

SAN JUAN - Guadalupe "Lupe" Porras Jr. went to be with his Lord, September 7, 2024. Surrounded by loved ones, he peacefully entered into eternal rest at the age of 66. Lupe was born and raised in Harlingen Tx. He graduated in 1976 from Harlingen High School where he proudly played for the Harlingen Cardinals Football Team, and was awarded for being an All District Player for his position as an offensive lineman. After graduating high school he attended the University of Texas at Austin where he joined The Phi Kappa Theta fraternity. It was during this time that he formed friendships that would last a lifetime. After graduating college in 1981 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Management, he returned to the Rio Grande Valley. In 1982 he partnered with friends David Hernandez and Joe Barrera to open Pop-A-Top stores across the Valley, known for having the "Coldest Beers in Town!" transitioned them to Holiday Wine and Liquor Stores over the years. Lupe was huge fan of the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys. 

Lupe's favorite hobbies were watching and playing golf with his son, watching football and baseball games, and enjoying a nice glass of wine with a good cigar listening to 60's/70's music. He was a man of immense wisdom, with a great sense of humor, who cherished every moment he spent with his loved ones. A pillar of strength and a beacon of love, his absence leaves a void in our hearts. Lupe is proceeded in death by his parents Guadalupe C. Porras Sr. and Eva G. Porras.

Mr. Porras is survived by his wife, Diana Porras; his son, Jason (Michelle Cantu) Porras; his siblings Jose Luis Porras (Sylvia), Carmen P. Silva, Roberto Porras (Cris), and Criscelda P. Davalos, along with numerous nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2024, at St. Jude Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Pallbearers will be RJ Maldonado, Juan Palomin, Joshua Barrera, Jonathan Cavazos, RJ Jimenez, Daniel Zamarron, Norman Hernandez, Quentin Perez. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Davalos, and Ruben Silva. 

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
