MCALLEN - Herminia Dela Cruz passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, in McAllen, Texas. She was the formidable matriarch of her family, a lifelong homemaker, and a woman of strength, generosity, and kindness. Herminia (“Inang Loring”) took great pride in caring for her family in the US, Canada, and the Philippines, and her steady presence shaped generations. She was a devoted wife who cared for her husband in his last years and a loving mother whose guidance and encouragement helped her children become the first generation in the family to earn college degrees and pursue professional careers.
Herminia was a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother who played an active role in raising her grandchildren and supporting her family throughout their lives. Known for her strong will, intelligence, and warmth, she gave selflessly to others and created a home rooted in love and stability. In her later years, she found joy in being with her family, tending to her plants, taking walks, and building community with her friends at adult daycare, where she especially enjoyed playing bingo. Her life was one of devotion, resilience, and quiet influence.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Paterno Dela Cruz, and her parents, Florencio and Margarita Naval. Herminia is survived by her sisters, Teresita Naval and Florida Naval; four children, Constancia (Hermie) Loria, Analita (Armenio) Rosario, Max (Edna) Dela Cruz, and Cely (Alfredo) Lecitona; eight grandchildren, Hilda (Alonso) De Avila, Ralph Andrew Rosario, Joann Dela Cruz, Jhanet (Romel) Somera, Mac Rosario, Joematt (Norie) Dela Cruz, Johnly (Yajaira) Dela Cruz, and Hermie Loria, Jr; seven great-grandchildren, Matthew, Nicholas, Mia, Genesis, Gael, Gemma, and Ethan. Her legacy lives on through the family she nurtured and the values she passed down, and she will be dearly missed.
