EDINBURG - Jaime Medina, 43, a lifelong resident of Edinburg, Texas, entered eternal rest on Monday, January 8, 2024. Mr. Medina was born on June 29, 1980, in McAllen, Texas, to Salome and Lucila (Lopez) Medina. Jaime was a loving husband and a devoted father to his beloved daughter. Jaime is preceded in death by his father, Salome Medina, of Edinburg, Texas, and his angel baby, Andrew.
Jaime was an intelligent and immensely kind-hearted individual who had a broad set of passions. However, music was the most prevalent which showed through his extensive and in-depth knowledge of music. His passion for music started in his early childhood years with mariachi and continued to grow through many genres of music throughout his life.
Jaime was a 1998 graduate of Edinburg High School having served as Assistant Drum Major (1996-1997) and as Head Drum Major his senior year (1997-1998). Jaime immediately began his studies in music theory and music education from the University of Texas–Pan American and graduated with a Masters in Music Education. He devoted his career in public education as Assistant Band Director for the PSJA North High School band in Pharr (2006-2012) and later became a prominent Head Band Director at LBJ Middle School in Pharr (2012-2019). His program continued to provide world-class music experiences for the students in his charge – many of whom he kept in contact with and encouraged to pursue their passion for music. Jaime has been recognized with numerous awards throughout his career, especially during his tenure at PSJA ISD with LBJ Middle School and PSJA North High School. He consistently produced TMEA All-State students, achieved UIL Sweepstakes with his concert bands, and guided numerous students to make it to the All-Region band. His love for music extended beyond his career.
Jaime was an avid reader, golfer, and chef. Jaime enjoyed going to comedy shows and music concerts with his wife and daughter. He enjoyed golfing with friends making many fond and funny memories with them. He enjoyed discovering new books to read, despite having a collection of “to be read” novels that filled his bookshelves. Jaime found great joy in spending his leisure time watching the LA Lakers play. He frequently accompanied his mother for late-night outings to play the “maquinitas”. Jaime and his daughter Kadence enjoyed playing made-up music games and music trivia during their car rides to go thrift shopping. He was a remarkable chef. He had a passion for cooking all sorts of dishes and never hesitated to experiment with new recipes.
Jaime will be remembered as a fierce friend and a loving family man. He cherished time spent with his family and undeniably considered his daughter to be his best friend. His warm and nurturing nature touched the lives of those around him. He will be endlessly missed. Even without his physical presence, the love he shared with those he had a bond and connection with will forever be deeply rooted and cherished in their hearts.
Mr. Medina is survived by his wife, Kristin Medina; daughter, Kadence Medina; his mother, Lucila Medina, all from Edinburg, Texas.
Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers are Gustavo Canales, Alex Medina, Jim Murray, Aaron Sandoval, Michael Sandoval, and Robert Trevino.
