MCALLEN - Lawrence Troy Alston, 58, entered eternal rest on Monday, April 29, 2024, in Edinburg. Mr. Alston was born in Fort Dix. New Jersey on November 9, 1965 to Marion and Stina Alston. Born fifth in a family of nine children, he was always the sweetest boy. Larry was a bright child, eager to learn and also share his gifts and many talents. In 1984, Larry graduated from Pemberton Township High School with honors. After high school, Larry entered the Army Reserves and attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. Mr. Alston is preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Stina Alston; three siblings, Thomas Earl Alston, Marion Alexander Alston Jr., and Vaness Leona Alston.

In 1985, Larry met Toyka Henderson. They fell in love and married in 1989, making this their thirty-fifth year of marriage. Entering a ready made family, Larry dutifully and lovingly became the father to LaToya and Calvin, raising them in Browns Mills, New Jersey. In 1994, Larry and Toyka welcomed Cameron Earl into their family, a left-handed writer, just like Larry.

Mr. Alston, known as the fun, thoughtful, and dependable family member always ensured his home and heart were open and available to his numerous neices and nephews and extended family members. In Toyka's family of mostly women, he was a constant supportive male figure. In a fast moving and chaotic world, Larry was an anchor and safe space for so many. He worked a diverse array of jobs from bagging groceries as a teenager to working for the postal service in 2003. Larry took a position with custom and Border Protection in the Department of Homeland Security. Larry was so proud to serve and recently was awarded a certificate for thirty years of government service.

On Monday, April 29, Larry woke up for his normal routine workout at the plce he loved. Tragically, it was then that Larry's heart beat for the last time, leaving behind broken hearts for the many people who loved him.

Mr. Alston is survived by his wife, Toyka R. Alston; three children, LaToya (Jay) McCoy, Calvin Henderson, and Cameron Alston; six grandchildren, Kayla, Kennedy, Mariah, Maliah, Madison, and Myleigh; five siblings, Naomi Alston, Leonard Alston, Daniel Alston, Christopher Alston, and Roger Alston; numerous nieces and nephews.
