MCALLEN - Ma Perfecta Zapata, 90, went to be with our Lord on Friday, February 20. 2026, in McAllen surrounded by her family. Mrs. Zapata was preceded in death by her husband, Juan Jose Zapata Sr.; her two daughters, Isela Zapata, and Antonia Zapata; parents, Juan and Josefa Gutierrez.
Ma Perfecta was an active parishioner at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in McAllen until her illness. She was a Cruzillista, Lector, Holy Eucharistic Minster and volunteered many hours of her time at St Vincent’s de Paul. Mrs. Zapata was Profess in 1990 with San Jose Obrero Secular Franciscan Order. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother she spent her time helping the people in need and keeping her Faith. She leaves behind a great Legacy, will be dearly missed, always loved, and never forgotten.
Mrs. Zapata is survived by her eight children, Dolores (Lupe) Perez, Juan Jose (Myra) Zapata Jr, Christina (Roberto) Lopez, Adolfo Zapata, Lauro Zapata, Dora Zapata, Teresa (CJ ) Zapata and Raquel Zapata; twenty-three grandchildren and thirty-one great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 26, 2026, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in McAllen. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Pallbearers will be Juan J. Zapata Jr., Jospeh Perez, Roberto Lopez, Christian Ambriz, Jacob Rich, Christopher Zapata, John M. Zapata, and Lauro Zapata Jr.
Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
