SAN JUAN — María D. Cantú, de 83 años, entró en el descanso eterno el lunes 25 de mayo de 2026, en San Juan. A la Sra. Cantú le precedieron en la muerte su esposo, José Santos Cantú González; sus padres, Bonifacio Garza y María Anaya; y tres hermanos: Felipe Garza, Anastacio Garza y Joel Garza.
A la Sra. Cantú le sobreviven sus cuatro hijos: Myriam (Sergio) González, Sylvia (Eleazar) Alanís, José Santos (Adriana) Cantú y Yesenia (Jesús) Olivares; once nietos: Priscilla González, Sergio González, Edgar González, Eleazar Alanís, Yeraldy Alanís, José Santos Cantú, Yulieth Cantú, Adrián Cantú, Jesús Olivares, Alexis Olivares y Oliver Olivares; trece bisnietos: Stephanie, Alexander, Alayza, Sofía Aimé, Oziel, Dariel, Carolina, Darianna, Henry, Renata, Romia, René y Romeo; ocho hermanos: María Antonia Quintanilla, Pua Tijerina, José Ángel Garza, Rosa Salinas, Consuelo Flores, Raúl Garza, Lydia Tijerina y Mirtha Salinas; así como numerosos sobrinos.
El velorio se llevará a cabo de 5:00 p. m. a 9:00 p. m., con el rezo del rosario a las 7:00 p. m., el martes 2 de junio de 2026, en Legacy Chapels, ubicada en 4610 South Jackson Road en Edinburg. La misa fúnebre se celebrará a las 10:00 a. m. del miércoles 3 de junio de 2026, en la Iglesia Católica St. Joseph the Worker. El sepelio tendrá lugar a continuación en el cementerio Lord and I, en Palmview.

SAN JUAN- Maria D. Cantu, 83, entered eternal rest on Monday, May 25, 2026, in San Juan. Mrs. Cantu was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Santos Cantu Gonzalez; parents, Bonifacio Garza, and Maria Anaya; three siblings, Felipe Garza, Anastacio Garza, and Joel Garza.
Mrs. Cantu is survived by her four children, Myriam (Sergio) Gonzalez, Sylvia (Eleazar) Alanis, Jose Santos (Adriana) Cantu, and Yesenia (Jesus) Olivares; eleven grandchildren, Priscilla Gonzalez, Sergio Gonzalez, Edgar Gonzalez, Eleazar Alanis, Yeraldy Alanis, Jose Santos Cantu, Yulieth Cantu, Adrian Cantu, Jesus, Olivares, Alexis Olivares, and Oliver Olivares; thirteen great grandchildren, Stephanie, Alexander, Alayza, Sofia Aime, Oziel, Dariel, Carolina, Darianna, Henry, Renata, Romia, Rene, and Romeo; eight siblings, Maria Antonia Quintaniila, Pura Tijerina, Jose Angel Garza, Rosa Salinas, Consuelo Flores, Raul Garza, Lydia Tijerina, and Mirtha Salinas; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Lord and I in Palmview.
