PHARR - Maria Guadalupe “Lupita” Garcia, born July 21, 1932 in Michoacán, Mexico, married to Guillermo Garcia Sr. February 13, 1956 until his passing in 1977, was a devoted woman of faith and a longtime parishioner of St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Pharr, TX, and breast cancer survivor. Mrs. Garcia was preceded in death by her husband, Guillermo Garcia; her daughter, Rosalia Garcia Villescas; two granddaughters, Marina E. Perez, and Gabriella M. Perez; her parents, Luis and Juana Tapia; seven siblings, Alicia T. Rios, Alvaro Tapia, Antonio Tapia, Adolfo Tapia, Gumaro Tapia, Juan Tapia, and Mauro Tapia.
Lupita found strength and purpose in her Catholic faith and love for her family, which she lived out daily with grace and humility. She enjoyed having her family over any day, any time, and had a hand in raising all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lupita also contributed to her community by working at Carnahan Elementary, serving and feeding the children in attendance. Lupita’s gentle spirit, kind heart, and deep faith touched all who knew her, and her memory will continue to inspire those whose lives she graced. It is “con mucho, mucho, mucho amor” that we say our goodbye to a most strong and loving matriarch. May she rest in eternal peace now with the family and husband that have awaited her.
Mrs. Garcia is survived by her eight children, Guillermo (Diana) Garcia Jr., Luis Alonzo (Glafira) Garcia, Aleida G. (Jesus Jr.) Villescas, Abel (Diana) Garcia, Mario (Margie) Garcia, Gilberto Garcia, Aida V. (Jose) Perez, and Eliazar Garcia; eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Patrica "Lola" Cabello Tapia, Esmerejilda "Mere" Tapia, and Alicia Tapia; numerous nieces and nephews.
