Maria Ignacia "Nacha" Garza Rodriguez

SAN MANUEL - Maria Ignacia Garza Rodriguez, 92, went to be with our Lord on Friday, August 28, 2026, in Edinburg. Mrs. Rodriguez was preceded in death by her parents, Romulo Garza and, Felicitas G. Garza; six siblings, Juanlino G. Garza, Arturo G. Garza, Maria Hilaria Garcia, Maria Natalia Salazar, Maria Dora Salinas, and Felicitas Torres

Mrs. Rodriguez is survived by her spouse, Juan C. Rodriguez Sr.; four children, Retired Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Raul R. (Maria D.) Rodriguez, Dalia L. Rodriguez-Quick, Dr. Sonya Y. Rodriguez, Juan (Della F. Perez) Rodriguez Jr.,; six grandchildren, Andre R. Rodriguez, DiAndra R. Rodriguez, Lauren T. Quick, Gabriella C. Barrera, John M. Rodriguez, and Michael A. Rodriguez; one brother, Teodoro Romulo Garza; numerous nieces and nephews.

A Life of Strength, Hard Work, and Devotion to Family

Our beloved mother passed away leaving behind a legacy that cannot simply be measured by the years she lived, but by the family she raised, the values she instilled, and the lives she touched.

She was a strong, hardworking woman who devoted her life to her family. She raised four children with love, discipline, high expectations, and an unwavering belief in doing what was right. She taught her children that nothing worthwhile came without hard work, that you should always take pride in what you do, and that your word and your character mattered.

Those lessons became the foundation upon which her children built their lives. Two of her children served honorably in the US Military then went on to careers in law enforcement, dedicating themselves to protecting and serving others, while two became educators, dedicating their lives to teaching, leading, and serving children and families. Their lives of service are perhaps one of the greatest reflections of the woman who raised them.

She knew the meaning of hard work because she lived it every day. Throughout her life, she worked at a produce company and later at Haggar Slacks. In her later years, she became part of the Edinburg CISD family, serving as a teaching assistant at Austin Elementary and South Middle School. In that role, she was able to extend the same care, structure, and commitment she gave her own children to the students she served.

At home, she took tremendous pride in everything she did. She was meticulous about caring for her household and believed things should be done well and done right. She loved working outdoors, tending to her garden, and even cutting her own yard. She was independent, determined, and never afraid of hard work. There was a special satisfaction she found in caring for her home and watching the things she planted grow.

As a mother, she could be strict, but behind that strictness was purpose. She was preparing her children for life. She wanted them to be responsible, independent, respectful, hardworking people who would contribute something meaningful to the world. Looking at the lives of the four children she raised, it is clear that her lessons took root.

She may have never sought recognition for all that she did. Her legacy was built quietly—in the meals prepared, the home cared for, the yard tended, the long days of work, the expectations she set, and the sacrifices she made for her family.

We will remember her strength. We will remember her determination. We will remember the pride she took in her home and family. And we will forever carry with us the work ethic, values, and sense of responsibility she worked so hard to instill.

Her hands worked throughout her lifetime, but the greatest work of those hands was helping shape a family whose lives became lives of service.

She leaves behind four children who are proud to call her Mom, a husband, and a family who will continue telling her stories, living her lessons, and carrying her strength forward for generations to come.

Her work on this earth is complete, but her legacy lives on through all of us.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg, Interment will follow at Pedro Garza Zamora Cemetery in Falfurrias, Texas.

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
