Rene Pena

d. May 27, 2014

Rene Peña, 58, fulfilled his wishes when he passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, surrounded by his family, friends and loyal dog Rusty. Rene was born on June 6, 1955. He would have celebrated his 59th birthday next week. Rene was a Valley native and a 1974 graduate of Sharyland High School, where he met his loving wife, Cindy. Rene was a dedicated and loyal employee of Frito-Lay for over 30 years. Within his career he was awarded the President's Ring of Honor '99 and '03. Rene will be remembered for his amazing work ethic, great sense of humor, loving character, and ability to bring life and laughter to any situation. Rene was an influence on the many people that surrounded him. So many of his family members, friends, and children's friends went to him for advice on any type of situation they were going through. He was easily a role model to many. He had many passions, including caring for his cattle, a love for all animals, and Elvis music. However his true passion was raising his two children, Cody and Brittany. He was a loving father who instilled his strong work ethic and giving nature into both of his children. Rene is preceded in death by his father, Tino Peña, step-father Santos Martinez, and father-in-law Adalberto Carranza. He is survived by his wife, Cindy, son Cody, and daughter Brittany, his mother, Juanita Martinez, his siblings, Maria (Richard) Zepeda of Fort Worth, Armando (Esperanza) Peña, Annie Peña-Garza, San Juanita (Eddie) Hernandez, Juan Martinez, and Norma (Robert) Lopez. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Idolina Carranza, sister-in-law Meliza (Roy) Villarreal of Lewisville, and brother-in-law Mark (Dina) Carranza, and by numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held today, May 29, 2014 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with a 7:00pm rosary at Legacy Chapels, 4610 S. Jackson Rd, in Edinburg. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00am, Friday, May 30, 2014 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in McAllen. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. The family will gather for a reception after the service at Legacy Chapels. The Family is in the care of Legacy Chapels of Edinburg.
