Richard "Rick"Lee Greiner

Richard "Rick" Lee Greiner passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, after a long and courageous journey with prostate cancer and Alzheimer's disease.

Born on December 7,1960 in Louisville, Kentucky, to Art and Sue Greiner, Rick was the youngest of six children. At the age of six, his family moved to Charleston, West Virginia, before relocating to Brownsville, Texas, when he was twelve. In Brownsville, Rick began playing football for the El Jardin Longhorns. Though he started out as a Longhorn, he eventually wised up and became a proud Aggie, attending Texas A&M University.

While at Texas A&M, Rick developed many of the passions that would shape his life. Through the university's outdoor recreation program, he discovered a lifelong love of climbing and kayaking. He became an accomplished outdoorsman and found great joy in sharing those experiences with others, teaching friends and newcomers the skills and confidence to enjoy adventure in nature.

Rick continued his education, earning his MBA while expanding his expertise in technology. Skilled in multiple computer programming languages, he specialized in creating patches for legacy software and developing business utility applications, combining technical knowledge with creative problem-solving.

Rick later moved to Austin, where he founded Greiner Consulting Company, providing management consulting and technology services. Among his many professional accomplishments, he played a role in the establishment of the Texas Lottery, a project he was proud to be part of.

Rick's greatest joy was his family. He was the proud father of twins Garrett and Riley, followed by his daughter, Makahla. His children brought him great joy and pride throughout his life, and he cherished the moments they shared together. Even after moving into his care community, Rick continued making lasting friendships. Known as one of the younger, stronger residents, he was always ready to lend a hand, share a laugh, and brighten someone's day. During this chapter of his life, Rick was surrounded by the love and support of his sisters Kathy and Beth, along with his nieces and nephews, whose care and dedication meant so much to him. His warmth, resilience, and caring spirit made him a favorite among both residents and staff, and the friendships he formed there brought him comfort and companionship.

Rick will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, sharp mind, generous heart, and quiet strength. Whether he was scaling a rock face, paddling a river, solving a difficult programming challenge, or simply offering a helping hand, he embraced life with determination, kindness, and an eagerness to share what he knew. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, the friendships he built, and the memories he leaves with those who knew and loved him.
