Rita Louise Latimer

PHARR - Rita Louise Latimer, 86,  entered eternal rest on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Comfort House hospice facility in McAllen, Texas.  Mrs. Latimer was a longtime resident of the Washington, Oklahoma community before moving to Pharr, Texas. Mrs. Latimer was born to Claude and Elvie Sykes on June 18, 1937, in Grandfield, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Latimer graduated from Weatherford High School in 1955. During her school years, she met the cutest bus driver the school employed, R.C. Latimer. They were married on December 22, 1956. To this union two children were born, Toni Latimer, and Vickie Bointy.

Mrs. Latimer worked as a teacher's assistant at Washington Elementary School in Washington, Oklahoma. Later on she retired from Irving Middle School in Norman, Oklahoma as an Administrative Assistant.

During their retirement, Rita and R.C. enjoyed traveling in their RV and became Winter Texans. In 1997, they moved from Washington, Oklahoma to the Rio Grande Valley and made their home at Texas Trails RV Resort in Pharr, Texas.

Mrs. Latimer loved all things water: oceans, lakes, rivers, and swimming pools. She led water aerobics exercises at the resort for 22 years. She also enjoyed sewing and needlework, cooking, baking, trying new recipes, and making R.C.’s favorite dishes, especially chocolate sheet cake.

Mrs. Latimer is survived by her son, Toni Latimer of Pharr, Texas; her daughter, Vickie Bointy of Claremore, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous family and friends.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Page Cemetery, South of Foss, Oklahoma. Time will be announced on a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Comfort House Services, 617 Dallas Avenue McAllen, Texas 78501. The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the staff at Comfort House, nurses and care aides at DHR Hospice for their dedication and the care they showed to Mrs. Latimer.
