Robert Andrew "Bobby" Calvillo, of McAllen, Texas, entered eternal rest on May 21, 2025, in Edinburg, Texas at the age of 62.
Bobby was born on March 28, 1963, in Weslaco Texas to Joe and Alicia Calvillo. He graduated from Weslaco High School and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Pan American University (now the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley).
Though Bobby began his professional life in the banking industry, he discovered his true calling in the nonprofit world, particularly in affordable housing. For nearly three decades, he served as Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Affordable Homes of South Texas Inc. (previously known as McAllen Affordable Homes,Inc.). Bobby dedicated himself to making the American dream of homeownership accessible to families beyond the reach of traditional lending. His leadership, integrity, and unwavering belief in the dignity of every family created a lasting legacy throughout South Texas and beyond. Bobby often said, "The commitment to affordable housing is a commitment to the well-being and prosperity of the entire community." He lived these words completely.
A man of deep faith, Bobby was a lifelong Roman Catholic. He and his family were devoted parishioners at Holy Spirit Catholic Church and St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in McAllen. As a member of the Knights of Columbus, he achieved the rank of Fourth Degree. Bobby embodied his faith through service-quietly, faithfully, and consistently.
Bobby shared his expertise and vision through board service with numerous nonprofit organizations, both locally and nationally, including The Catholic Diocese Brownsville's Housing Ministry, Housing Assistance Council in Washington, D.C., and the Weslaco Area Chamber o f Commerce.
Beyond his professional achievements, Bobby was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He is survive by his beloved wife of 31 years, Carmen, and their daughter Marina. He is also survived by his father, Joe Calvillo, Jr., siblings, David (Valerie), Joseph, John Paul (Anthea) and Veronica (Ruben), along with many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and colleagues who became cherished friends.
Bobby followed the San Antonio Spurs not merely as a fan, but as someone who appreciated the beauty of teamwork, perseverance, and loyalty they embodied. He was also an avid runner, frequently appearing on leaderboards at local 5k races. Whether running or working, he moved through life with quiet determination, humility, and purpose.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Bobby's name to Affordable Homes of SouthTexas , Inc. (AHSTI).

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary on Monday, May 26, 2025, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m.. Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mcallen. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mission.
