MCALLEN - Robert Andrew González, 84, of McAllen, passed away peacefully at his home on May 28, 2025, surrounded by his wife, Margarita, and daughter, Debbie. Robert is preceded in death by his daughter, Daisy González-Alaniz; his parents, Roberto and Olympia González; sister, Norma Linda González-Zarate; brother in-law, Fermin Cobo.
Robert was born in McAllen, Texas on May 9, 1941. He graduated from McAllen High School in 1960, attended Pan American College, graduated from McAllen Business College and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Northwestern University School of Business in 1971. His early work history included a job at The Man’s Shop in downtown McAllen as a salesman, bookkeeping for the family business, González Auto Parts in Hidalgo, Texas, and later established his accounting practice, R.A González G & Co at the Professional Plaza in McAllen. As an Army veteran, Robert served his country from 1961-1962 in the United States Army achieving the rank of 2Lt. and was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard in 1966.
Robert lived his life as a true gentleman and an exemplary son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His attention to detail in his work and devotion to his family, especially his daughters, was evident throughout the lives he touched along the way. He will be greatly missed.
Robert married the love of his life, Margarita Gutierrez, on December 4, 1969. He is survived by his wife, his daughter, Debbie Fernandez (Santiago); a son-in-law, Gilbert Alaniz; four grandchildren, Natalia Lopez (Mychal Gadison), Javier Lopez, Alexa Fernandez, Andre Fernandez; a great-granddaughter, Xena D. Gadison; his siblings, Graciela Cobo and Rene González (Irma); numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2025, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in McAllen. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission with full Military honors.
Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
