EDINBURG - Roberto Villarreal, lovingly known as “Bobby,” was born on June 17, 1954, in Edinburg, Texas. After 71 years of life, he passed away on January 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Roberto was a sweet, kind, and incredibly funny man. He had a way of making people laugh and smile effortlessly, even if you had just met him. His warmth, humor, and kind heart left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He was preceded in death by his mother, Guadalupe V Mendoza; his beloved Tía Nena, Tía Sara Hernandez; and his nephew, Roland Michael Mendoza.
He started working at the age of 12 as a paper boy. He held many jobs during his life including working at the cotton gins and operating sound for tejano bands, before retiring as a Shipping Supervisor at Vanity Fair in McAllen, Texas. His ultimate role in life was being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his wife, children, and granddaughter deeply, and nothing brought him more joy than time spent with his family. As the oldest of six siblings, Roberto was a wise and loving brother and son. Roberto also had a lifelong love for the Dallas Cowboys, who he cheered for with passion and pride.
Roberto is survived by his loving wife, Juanita Magdalena Villarreal; his three children, Roberto Villarreal Jr., Alyssa Villarreal, and Gabriela (Maxanthony) Aguilar; and his cherished granddaughter, Alyna May Aguilar. He is also survived by his siblings, Aida Mendoza, Ana M (Leonardo) Espinoza, Armalinda (Rosella Tavarez) Mendoza, Rolando (Susana) Mendoza, and Juan Rogelio (Lilly) Mendoza Jr..
Roberto will be remembered for his loving spirit, contagious laughter, and the joy he brought into the lives of many. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary Wednesday January 28, 2026, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 29, 2026 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
