Roel P. Maldonado

Roel P. Maldonado, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on July 10, 1948, in Falfurrias, Texas, Roel grew up in a close knit family that shaped the values he carried throughout his life: hard work, humility, laughter, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved. He was the son of Luciano and Candelaria Maldonado, whose guidance and example remained with him always.

Roel married the love of his life, Becky, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage and a lifetime of partnership, laughter, and an unshakeable bond. Together they built a beautiful family that became Roel’s greatest source of joy and pride. He is survived by his children: Tommy Maldonado (Belinda), Sammy Maldonado (Audrey), and Nina Peña (Jaime). To his grandchildren, Evan Maldonado, Gabrian Maldonado, Matthew Maldonado, Eliana Maldonado, Ryan Peña, and Levi Peña, Roel was a constant source of love, stories, and encouragement. His face would light up whenever he spoke of them, and he cherished every moment spent watching them grow.

Roel is also survived by his siblings Rolando Maldonado, Mike Maldonado, Luciano Maldonado, and Mary Garcia, and is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Humberto Maldonado, Maricela Barnard, Irma Garcia, and Yolanda Flores. His bond with his brothers and sisters was strong and lifelong, marked by countless memories, laughter, and deep family ties.

A proud alumnus of Sul Ross University, Roel played baseball for one year and football all four years, an experience that nurtured his lifelong love for sports and teamwork. That passion carried into the rest of his life. He found joy in hunting, golf, and above all, coaching football and baseball. Roel had a gift for seeing potential in others and lifting people up, whether he was on the field working with young athletes or simply sharing wisdom with those who crossed his path.

Roel was known for his warm spirit, easy smile, and the stories he loved to tell, stories that brought people together, filled rooms with laughter, and preserved the memories he held close to his heart. To know Roel was to know kindness, generosity, and a man who truly valued the moments spent with family and friends.

Though his passing leaves an emptiness we cannot fill, the legacy Roel leaves behind is immense. His love, his lessons, and his stories will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

Roel P. Maldonado will be deeply missed, but his memory will remain a light for his family and community forever. May he rest in peace.
