Sydia Ann Califa

EDINBURG - Sydia Ann Califa, 76, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, in Edinburg surrounded by her family. Ms. Califa was preceded in death by her parents, Joe A. and Irma Califa.

Sydia was a loving and devoted mother whose family and faith were the center of her life. She was a teacher for McAllen ISD for more than 40 years. Sydia lived with a deep devotion to her Catholic faith, attending Mass weekly and placing her trust in God throughout her life. She especially cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable happiness and pride. Her strength, kindness, unwavering faith, and unconditional love for her family will be deeply missed and forever carried in the hearts of those who loved her.

Ms. Califa is survived by her two sons, Robert (Christina) Vela, and Michael (Celena) Vela; four grandchildren, Cameron, Olivia, Saber and Jordyn; four siblings, Vickie (Frank) Pardo, Clari (Jeff) Rotunno, Joe A. (Nydia) Califa, and Sam (Betty) Califa; eleven nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary, Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg.

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
