HARLINGEN - Yolanda Rodriguez Acosta, 80, beloved daughter, wife, mother, aunt, and friend, was called to her heavenly home on Monday, April 15, 2024, while surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Acosta is preceded in death by her parents, Jose Antonio "El Indio" Rodriguez and Rafaela Maltos Rodriguez; two sisters, Gloria Vera and Oralia Guzman; three brothers, Humberto "Bob" Rodriguez, Jose Antonio "Joe" Rodriguez and Hector "Prieto" Rodriguez; a sister-in-law Juanita Rodriguez, a brother-in-law Joe Vera, Jr., and her husband, Roland Joe Acosta.

Born on June 10, 1943, Yolanda was raised in Edinburg, Texas and the youngest of six siblings. She graduated from Edinburg High School in 1962 and later earned her degree in education from Texas A&M University - Kingsville. She went on to dedicate over 30 years of her life to serving her community as an elementary school teacher with Edinburg CISD, touching the lives of countless students with her wisdom, compassion, and dedication to education. Beyond the public school classroom, she shared her faith and values as a devoted Sunday school teacher, initially at First Assembly of God in Mission, and continuing with Palm Valley Church, until her retirement from teaching.

In addition to her professional and spiritual pursuits, Yolanda was a loving and devoted wife to her late husband, Roland Joe Acosta, with whom she shared a loving and cherished relationship. Together, they raised two sons, Roland Joe Acosta, Jr. and Dr. Rob Acosta, PhD. Her home was filled with love, laughter, and the delicious aroma of her cooking, as she delighted in preparing meals for her family and sharing the joy of food with those that she loved. Yolanda also enjoyed traveling, photography, and taking care of both furry and feathered pets.

Mrs. Acosta will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to others will live on in the hearts and minds of those she touched.
