Yvonne C Gordon

EDINBURG - Yvonne C. Gordon, 56, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, August 23, 2026, in Edinburg. Ms.. Gordon was preceded in death by her father, Owen Gordon; one brother Rubert Baker.

Ms. Gordon is survived by her mother, Ena Mae Gordon; four siblings, Janet Gordon Francis, Jacqueline Gordon, Moses Williams, and DelRose James; numerous cousins, Aunts, Uncles, three nieces, and four nephew; friends in Jamaica in particular, Junie, Christine, Alphonso, Paulettte, and Lorraine; friends in NewYork, Juliette, Charmaine, Gabbidon, and the Raji Family to name a few.

Yvonne Gordon was born in Jamaica, West Indies, on December 10, 1969, to her parents, Ena and Owen Gordon. She was one of four sisters and two brothers. She leaves to cherish her memory her sisters, Delrose, Janet, and Jacqueline, and her surviving brother, Moses, along with many beloved family members and friends.

Yvonne attended Primary and Vocational School in Jamaica, graduating as a Nursing Assistant. During those years, she met her cherished friend, Christine. Although life eventually separated them by distance, their friendship endured through treasured phone conversations over the years.

In 1998, Yvonne migrated to Queens, New York, where she joined her parents and sisters and began a new chapter of her life.

While in New York, Yvonne cared for the children of two families as a babysitter. She had the privilege of watching those children grow into adulthood, pursuing careers and building lives of their own. This meaningful chapter reflected the quiet, dependable care she gave to others.

Yvonne found comfort and strength in her faith and looked forward to attending the Jamaica Seventh-day Adventist Church, where she enjoyed worship and formed new friendships. One of her favorite traditions was posing for a picture after church, beautifully dressed in her Sabbath clothes and wearing what the family affectionately remembers as her “Sabbath smile.”

After spending 23 years of her adult life in New York, Yvonne relocated to Texas. Leaving New York was not easy, as she was reluctant to leave the place that had been home for so many years.

The library was another favorite place for Yvonne. While settling into Texas, she attended the Library Activity Center each week, where she continued knitting and formed a friendship with Ms. Nancy. Ms. Nancy was supportive, patient, and helpful as Yvonne adjusted to her new surroundings, bringing her comfort and companionship during an important transition.

Yvonne was quiet and reserved in public but possessed a warm and welcoming smile. She appreciated routine and took pride in caring for herself and doing things in her own particular way. Caring for her teeth remained especially important to her. Even when her strength became limited, Yvonne used some of her last energy to floss, rinse, and make certain her mouth was clean—a small but memorable reflection of her determination to maintain the routines that mattered to her.

In her quiet moments, Yvonne enjoyed crocheting with a loom, a pastime that reflected her patient and gentle nature.

Yvonne was also a dedicated and dependable worker who developed strong, lasting relationships with her employers. The bonds she formed often extended beyond the workplace, reflecting the loyalty and commitment that others came to know and appreciate.

While living in McAllen, Texas, Yvonne became a member of the Edinburg Seventh-day Adventist Church, where she enjoyed fellowship, worship services, and social gatherings.

Texas also gave Yvonne the blessing of being surrounded by family. Her mother and all of her sisters lived nearby, allowing them to share many special moments together. Birthdays became treasured occasions filled with dinners, laughter, celebrations, and group pictures that captured memories the family will forever hold dear.

During the later years of her life, Yvonne faced significant health challenges, including a long struggle with anemia, poor appetite, and eventually cancer. She endured these difficulties quietly and courageously while remaining surrounded by the love and support of her family.

Eventually, Yvonne’s battle with cancer came to an end, but the memories of the quiet woman with the warm smile—her Sabbath pictures, familiar routines, love of family gatherings, faith, friendships, and the simple things that brought her joy—will remain.

Yvonne’s life touched her family, friends, church family, coworkers, the children she cared for, and all who had the opportunity to know her. Though her earthly journey has ended, the memories she created will continue to live in the hearts of those who loved her.

Rest peacefully, Yvonne.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a 4 p.m. prayer service on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Edinburg Seventh-Day Adventist Church 602 W. Wisconsin Rd. in Edinburg.

In lieu of flowers, you may send a donation to the family as a gesture of love and support. Flowers may also be sent to the family.

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
